have been grown in the fardens for interest and curiosity for .

years but anihot plaziove has repeatedly dried of cold in winter and the two former, although growing in rich prepared soil, have not made progress which shows any prospect of their becoming a a commercial success if planted on a large scale even under the exceptionally good conditions of a garden but which could not possibly be imitated on the hills of the New Territory.

I cherefore do not propose to unste time and money on the direction of attempting the extended growth of these rubber plants in the New Territory as their cultivation for commercial purposes is quite impracticable.
